{"id":838,"date":"2019-08-08T08:30:57","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T15:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2019.longbeach.wordcamp.org\/?p=838"},"modified":"2019-10-31T23:05:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T06:05:47","slug":"wordcamp-long-beachs-future-of-wordpress-track-generates-a-community-buzz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/longbeach.wordcamp.org\/2019\/wordcamp-long-beachs-future-of-wordpress-track-generates-a-community-buzz\/","title":{"rendered":"WordCamp Long Beach&#8217;s &#8220;Future of WordPress&#8221; Track Generates a Community Buzz"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WordCamp Long Beach Sunday track is getting a lot more attention in the greater WordPress community than is usual for the second day of a WordCamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The topic for the day is the &#8220;Future of WordPress,&#8221; and as we explain in the <a href=\"https:\/\/2019.longbeach.wordcamp.org\/2019\/08\/01\/call-for-speakers\/\">Call for Speakers<\/a>, we plan to host talks and panels &#8220;exploring the more philosophical side of WordPress.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately after announcing the topic, we received an outpouring of support from prominent WordPress thought-leaders, like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mor10\">Morten Rand-Hendriksen<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This Future of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WordPress?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WordPress<\/a> track sounds like an amazing idea. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5SNcYiCg5k\">https:\/\/t.co\/5SNcYiCg5k<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Morten Rand-Hendriksen is elsewhere (@mor10) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mor10\/status\/1156997376730521600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 1, 2019<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The enthusiastic response even prompted prominent WordPress publication WPTavern to <a href=\"https:\/\/wptavern.com\/wordcamp-long-beach-to-debut-a-future-of-wordpress-track\">write an article about the &#8220;new concept&#8221; on August 6<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;These are the types of big picture presentations that you rarely see at smaller WordCamps. They are usually sprinkled in with other topics at larger camps, so having an entire track dedicated to the Future of WordPress is a unique opportunity for attendees to join in these important conversations.&#8221;<br><\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/wptavern.com\/wordcamp-long-beach-to-debut-a-future-of-wordpress-track\">&#8211; WPTavern, August 6<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As co-organizer S\u00e9 Reed says in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wptavern.com\/wordcamp-long-beach-to-debut-a-future-of-wordpress-track\">WPTavern article<\/a>, the inspiration for the WordCamp Long Beach Sunday track is &#8220;the desire to have some \u2018bigger\u2019 conversations about WordPress, its place in the web\/tech ecosystem, and where WordPress is headed.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need to be having these conversations openly and honestly, as a community.
